STUDIO FINE ARTS CLUB AGES 3-5

The Fine Arts Club is fun and active learning for preschoolers that develop social skills and talents at a young age. Children will enjoy dance, yoga, and fitness, music, art, and drama with imagination and creativity leading the way. The goal of the program is to enhance each child's overall development by advancing motor skills and improving social, cognitive, and emotional awareness. This is your child's opportunity to develop confidence, spark imagination and inspire creativity.

It's time to get active and connect with others with a small class size in a large studio space!  

Students may register for one day or both days.  Eight week session.

PERFORMANCE CLASSES AGES 2 - 7

Performance classes are great for students that would like to learn dance technique AND work towards a spring dance performance! In addition to learning dance skills and technique, performance classes will learn choreography to prepare for the annual recital.  Performance classes are a great place to get started so your dancer can have their chance to shine!

TWINKLE TOTS (Age 2/3)   - Ballet & Creative Movement 

​

This fun and imaginative class will introduce ballet, creative movement and gross motor skills through familiar songs, creative movement and imagination!  A great class for the two year old or the three year old dancer who is not yet potty-trained or not quite ready to come into the classroom alone.   One parent per dancer may come into the classroom initially.  Parents entering the class will initially participate actively in the class along side of their dancer.   As the class becomes comfortable, we will move towards transitioning the parents out of the classroom until all dancers are participating independently!  Students must be two by September 1st.   Note: Three year old children who are fully potty-trained and ready to enter the classroom independently are encouraged to register for Pixie Dance.  

 

Dress Requirements:  Hair pulled away from face and off shoulders secured closely to head.  Light pink leotard, pink tights & classical pink leather ballet slippers.  Boys may wear white T-shirts, black sweatpants, black leather ballet shoes.   Dance wear and shoes are available for purchase through JMDS for your convenience.

PIXIE DANCE (Age 3/4) & SPARKLE STEPS (Age 4/5) - Ballet, tap & Tumbling

Pre school children will enjoy these 45 min classes designed especially for them.  Introductory ballet, tap & tumbling skills as well as creative movement will be explored in these classes.  (Tumbling time is minimal.)  The extensive use of props and imagery keep young dancers engaged and fosters a love for dance by introducing movement in a playful yet effective way.  Children must be potty-trained and must be the required age by September 1st.   Participants in this class should be ready to enter the classroom independently.  Sparkle Steps moves quicker than Pixie Dance but is still appropriate for most 4 year old children, especially those who have had previous group activity experience.   Note:  Three year old children who are not yet potty-trained or ready to come into the classroom independently should register for Twinkle Tots.

HOP-N-TUMBLE (Ages 4-5) - Hip Hop & Acro-Dance Combo

NEW!  Join this lively class that introduces the styles of hip hop & acro-dance to ages 4/5.   Our certified Acrobatic Arts instructor will start the class with a warm up & cool hip hop moves, then move on to basic tumbling skills to finish the class.   These classes are kept purposely small so the instructor can provide hands on spotting and corrections to each student.

Dress Requirements:   Black leotard or black form fitting tank with black biker shorts.   Boys should wear a black Tee and black athletic shorts.   Bare legs and bare feet.   NO jewelry!  Hair should be pulled back into a low ponytail.   No beaded hair as beads can cause injury to your dancer during certain skills, they also break during class and pose a safety hazard.

FABULOUS FEET (Age 5/6) & SHINING STARZ (Age 6/7) - Ballet, tap & jazz

It's time to jazz things up a bit with these hour long faster paced classes for young school aged children!  A wide variety of Ballet, Tap & Jazz Technique is explored in this class.  Students will lean movement in the center, at the barre' and across the floor.  Classes are still approached in a fun and enjoyable manner.  Children must be the required age by September 1st.  

 

Dress Requirements:  Hair pulled away from face and off shoulders secured closely to head.  Lavender leotard, classical pink tights, Velcro strap tap shoes & classical pink leather ballet slippers.  Short dance skirts are optional.  Boys may wear white T-shirts, black sweatpants, black leather ballet shoes and black lace-up tap shoes.  All items are available for purchase through JMDS for your convenience.

 KOOL KIDZ HIP HOP (Ages 6-8) - Hip hop dance

​

This very popular form of  street style dance has been taking the local dance scene by storm for many years now!  It's a great 45 min class for both boys and girls and a form of dance that anyone can enjoy! Both those new to dance as well as those with limited experience will find the classes fun and enjoyable.  Hip hop styles from past to present are explored in each class through center and across the floor movement.  Age appropriate music and movement is always a focus as it is with all classes at JMDS!   Note:  Most students will stay in this hip hop level for two years.   Once to learn & one to master. 

 

Dress Requirements:   Hair secured away from the face and off the neck.  Black High Top Canvas Hip Hop Sneakers, black leggings, black biker shorts or black sweatpants and a comfortable, loose fitting top such as a T-shirt.

ACRO-DANCE (Ages 6+) - Acrobatic Dance

Join our certified Acrobatic Arts instructor for these classes that blend dance, flexibility skills and tumbling all into one great class.   Students will increase flexibility and strength along with learning tumbling and transitional dance skills.  These classes are kept purposely small so the instructor can provide hands on spotting and corrections to each student.   

Note:   Most students will remain at a level of Acro-Dance for 2-3 years before moving to the next.  Students with previous acrobatic, tumbling or gymnastics experience should contact the office for placement.  240-343-2623

SINGLE STYLE CLASSES (Ages 7-10) - Ballet, Tap, Jazz

These single subject classes will focus on one style of dance for the entire class.    Single subject classes allow the dancer to explore the style(s) of dance they are interested in in a more in depth manner.   Combo classes are great, but with our single style classes dancers are able to progress quicker as we have more time to introduce and work on skills.  Students may take one single subject class, or multiple.   A great new addition to the JMD Studios program line up!

Dress Requirements:  Hair pulled away from face and off shoulders secured closely to head.  Black colored leotard, toast tights, tan buckle strap tap shoes for tap, tan canvas jazz shoes for jazz & classical pink leather ballet slippers for ballet.  Form fitting biker shorts or short dance skirts are optional.  Boys may wear white T-shirts, black sweatpants, black leather ballet shoes and black lace-up tap shoes.  Dance wear and shoes are available for purchase through JMD Studios.
